PUK officials enjoy electricity, while governmental offices and newspapers are cut off

"Suleimani (TheKurdistani.com) – High ranking members of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) are being supplied with electricity 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in the city of Suleimani on the expense of private newspapers and civil and governmental offices, reported the independent Kurdish weekly, Hawlati.

Hawlati, Kurdistan’s post popular newspaper, was delayed its publication on Wednesday because the Kurdistan regional government (Suleimani administration) cut off its electricity supplies."
The Kurdistani
This is really bad news. This reminds me of how thing work in Cuba. Even though of course Kurdistan already has much better press and freedom of the press than Cuba has seen in 46 years, that kind of cronyism can only lead to more of the same. Kurdistan could slide right off the rails and end up as bad as it was, like that.

I wonder how much it would cost to provide dependable back up power to those news outlets.
